The Sylver Quill
Fantasy woven from silence, storm, and choice.
About A.G. Sylver
A.G. Sylver is the pen name of Alex Gross, a fantasy author drawn to stories of unraveling fate, quiet defiance, and the weight of choice. His debut novel, Fate’s Threshold, is the first in the Ascendant Series—a sweeping epic about a girl’s quiet rebellion against a future written without her.He didn’t begin this story to impress anyone. He began it because he needed somewhere to return to—
a place where strength and softness could coexist,
where choice mattered more than prophecy,
and where the quiet moments in between battles held as much meaning as the victories. Now, he writes toward the stillness before a hard decision, the ache of a final glance, the crown held in shaking hands. As he puts it:
"I’m not here to follow the thread. I’m here to pull it."
So What do I write?
A few thoughts on tone, truth, and the magic that lingers.
Literary epic fantasy isn’t just about sprawling battles or intricate magic systems—it’s about the human truths buried beneath them. That’s where the “literary” comes in.It’s where magic carries meaning. Where choices echo louder than spells. Where silence can weigh more than any warcry. You won’t find a battle every chapter—but you will find characters wrestling with fate, identity, and the quiet courage it takes to choose your own path.If Tolkien gave us epic myth, Rowling sparked wonder through discovery, and Fourth Wing delivers romantic thrill—then I write toward the war within. My stories are for those who love slow burns, quiet defiance, and moments that linger—long after the last page is turned. If that sounds like you—welcome.
ASCENDANT
Book One - Fate's Threshold
Some fates are chosen. Others must be broken.Irayna was born to duty, not destiny—haunted by visions and a power she barely understands. She thought her path was clear: protect her kingdom, serve her people. But when a rupture between worlds tears her from the life she thought was hers, she awakens in Valmyra—a land of living gods, silken courts, and a history built on beautiful lies. Here, belief shapes reality. Prophecy whispers louder than truth. And something has been waiting for her. Something with eyes in the dark. And plans of its own.As Irayna walks deeper into Valmyra’s layered deceptions, she begins to see the cost of living a story not her own.Not all lies wear the face of evil. Not all revelations are safe to hold. With the realm’s unity fracturing and something older stirring beneath it, Irayna must choose: will she play the part written for her—or become the one who unravels it?At the edge of fate, one woman must decide what she stands for—before someone else decides for her.

Book Two - Wings of Prophecy
Truth was never the danger. Belief was.Irayna wears the crown—but unity is a mask, and peace little more than theater. Whispers slip through the halls of Aegion. Beneath every bow lies a question. And beyond the city’s walls, something forgotten begins to stir. The signs are there. Smoke coils from Ashenpeak’s slopes. Dreams splinter. An army moves where no one should. But those in power choose not to see. Not yet.As Irayna searches for the truth behind the omens, she uncovers a war already in motion—one written in prophecy, ash, and things long buried. Each answer unspools the story she thought was hers. And in the unraveling, she sees she’s not the only one bound to a truth the world tried to forget. Now the Shadowed Ones are stirring. The threads are fraying. And someone wants her dead before she can become what they fear.Irayna must walk the knife’s edge between vision and madness—before the world she serves forgets who she really is.When belief becomes fear—will she shape what comes next, or be lost to what came before?
